Where to get help from Google

When I do Google training events, people ask me the same questions over and over again.  This is the cheat sheet I use when doing webinars.

You may not find the answer to your question here.  These are just the most common questions I get. If your question isn’t answered here, you can visit the overall Google Support site and navigate to what you want to know.

Sadly, Google doesn’t offer telephone support for their free tools like your Business Profile, Google Analytics, YouTube, etc.

How to get support for your Google Business Profile (formally Google My Business)

This link will take you to Google’s online Business Profile support.

Can’t solve your problem using online support?  Here’s the link to contact support.

And/or try reaching that team on social Media. Their Twitter handle is: @GoogleMyBiz.  Their Facebook page is:  @GoogleBusinessProfile

In either case, you will need your Google ID.  Click here to learn how to find that.

What businesses are eligible for a Google Business Profile?

If your business either has a physical location that customers can visit, or travels to customers where they are, you can create a Business Profile on Google.  This tool isn’t a good fit for a business that is an online store or a completely virtual business that never sees customers face-to-face.

Click here for more information about eligible businesses. (You may have to scroll down the page to get to the section about Eligible Businesses.)

If you do see customers in your local areas (perhaps to make deliveries or something like that), you would set up your business as a “service only” business.  That way Google wouldn’t show your address on the profile.  You can do this even if you are a home-based business. However, you will still need to give your home address to Google so they can mail the verification card to you.

How to add Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to your website

This article in Google Support is for anyone who wants to set up Google Analytics 4 for a CMS-hosted (Content Management System) website, e.g., a website created using Wix, WordPress, Drupal, Squarespace, GoDaddy, WooCommerce, Shopify, Magento, Awesome Motive, HubSpot, etc.

How to get telephone support for Google Ads

Here’s the phone number for setup help with Google Ads: 1-855-738-7723.

Google Nonprofit Ads Grants

You’ll first need to join Google for Nonprofits.  This page has information about that, including how to apply for the ads grants. Grants are up to $10,000 per month, so definitely check this out if you are a nonprofit.

Google Ads Credits (For-profit businesses)

Google frequently offers BOGO ad credits for first-time advertisers.  If you have a Business Profile, you may see the credit there.  Or, if you set up a new Ads account, you may be offered a credit.  Google changes the credit program frequently. Visit this page to see if they are running one now.

Again, the grants are typically for first-time advertisers. But if you had an account in the past, but haven’t used it in a while, it might have become inactive. If that’s the case you’d have to set up a new account and may be able to get the grant.

What businesses or products are prohibited from Google Ads?

Google publishes its Ads policies at this link.

How do you get a Google Workspace account? (Or, how can I get a professional email address for my business?)

I address getting a Google Workspace account in this post on my website.

Need more support from Google?

Again, this is my personal cheat sheet. By no means is it a complete resource. You may not find the answer to your question here.

These are just the most common questions I get. If your question isn’t answered here, you can visit the overall Google Support site and navigate to what you want to know.
